U.S. Marine Staff Sergeant Felipe Tremillo, Jr. had big plans for himself and his future as a high school senior and decided the military would be a great place to start achieving those goals.
In October 2002, Tremillo enlisted in the U.S. Marines. Throughout his time in the military, Tremillo was deployed twice to Iraq and once to Afghanistan. While deployed in Afghanistan, he was an assistant radio chief stationed with Regimental Combat Team 5, the most highly decorated Marine Unit in Operation Enduring Freedom. Tremillo was part of a small group designated to set up the perimeter and establish a base camp. His job was to ensure that all levels of radio communications were established and always working, requiring logistics equal to that of a small city. Insurgents knew the base camp was being set up and ambushed the area. Tremillo was exposed to an IED during enemy attacks and three men lost their lives. Once Tremillo returned from his deployment he was ordered to Camp Pendleton, California, to receive treatment for traumatic brain injury (TBI) and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) due to IED exposure.
As a result of his 12 years of service, Tremillo deals with injuries including migraine headaches due to TBI, painful and unstable scars in the right knee, on the forehead and chest, cervical strain, arthritis in his right shoulder, bilateral knee degenerative joint disease and PTSD, among other ailments.
Tremillo has been recognized for his heroism with several Medals: Marine Corps Good Conduct; Iraq Campaign; Afghanistan Campaign; Navy Commendation; GWOT Service; Navy and Marine Corps Achievement; and NATO Medal-ISAF Afghanistan, among other accolades.
Tremillo and his wife, Tina, have three sons who all enjoy RVing, working out, swimming and volunteering within the community. Currently living in San Antonio, the Tremillos are looking forward relocating to China Spring, Texas, to be closer family and friends.
Operation FINALLY HOME along with Sorrells & Company and H-E-B Operation Appreciation are honored to provide Felipe Tremillo, Jr. and his family with a custom-built, mortgage-free home in China Spring, Texas.
